My water is tinted green. I put some carbon in my filters to try to remove the color, but seriously I cannot see to the back of my tank (it's not that wide either!!!). What could be causing this murky color?

Most likely you have an algae bloom. Is it planted? If not it would be best to go a few days without any light. Also make sure no sunlight is on the tank on top of your regular light or you will get what you probally have. Decrease the number of hours your light is on and/or have breaks and turn of the light for a couple hours during the day.

You can find some information and solutions here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=88353

In addition to whats been said, do a few water changes and add filter floss to your filter.

It's a planted tank, that's why I posted it in the "Planted Tanks" section, silly. :p

There's no sunlight where my tank is. I'll try keeping the lights on for less time. And I did one better than adding filter floss - I added a second filter.

I was having the same problem with my 75 gallon heavily planted tank. I had no algae, the plants were doing great but I couldn't see the back of the tank because of the green, cloudy water. I was changing 25 gallons of water daily but to no avail. I finally ordered a Coralife Turbo Twist 3X 9W UV Sterilizer. Within 24 hours of setting it up in the tank, my water was crystal clear. I would strongly recommend it if you continue to have the problems.

Thats great :) The filter floss helps catch the spores of algae so make sure you have fine media in your filters. That should definitely help.

It definitely worked for me. I couldn't believe how quick it cleared up. One side benefit of the UV sterilizer is that it also kills the ich bacteria that is water borne.
