I think my tank has green water - whilst it's not a real dark green like i've seen some people have on here, the water is a pale green colour.

I've tried treating it with Green Away but this has had no affect so i've stopped using it.

My tank is situated below a window sill, so whilst it doesnt get direct sunlight on the tank all the time, it does for a few hours in the day and it bright for the rest of the time.

As i'm going away this weekend i thought maybe it would be a good time to try the other method for treating green water and cover the tank. But with the current temperatures in the UK (my tank is always around 30 degrees lately), will it be ok to cover the tank or will it get too hot inside?

cover the side that the window is on and that will stop the direct sunlight which will be the main cause of the greenwater

Tank is about 14 months old. Water has been like that a while, for the last month or so, even after water changes it'll go back to the same colour - never gets darker or lighter, and never clear :/

hi
if you can optimise your tank aeration by turning up your airpump(if you have one) to max or adjust an internal filter so the flow is agitating the water surface this will help your fish on hot days when the water is getting too hot which will help if you want to keep your lid shut.

what about some very fine filter wool in the filter ? I saw something on another forum before, he using a powerhead with what looked like a roll of string, it was modified and a powerhead adding to the pipe part.

this wa fine filtration, it took it all out

i'll try that filter wool trick if it comes back again, sounds simple enough :)

get the algae killer that comes in a yellow bottle under the brand name TETRA...it does not harm fish (can't speak for plants) and it works in an hour or less. My green water was caused by overfeeding.
