My platy tanks water is green. Ive been cleaning every weekend trying to get the water to clear but nothing works. Whats wrong?

I've had the SAME PROBLEM and i hated it...... it's most likely your lighting... this type of alge is VERY small and turns your water green, so small it cannot be caught in filters... the only way to get rid of it it to change your lighting.

What type of lighting are you using now??

How much natural sunlight is the tank getting?

these questions will help me tell you how to fix your problem..

nah its neither one of those. you guys have alage blooms. I had one try everything. Then i finally found something that worked with one dose. Ok its a yello bottle with a green label. Its by the band tetra. its called alage control. if i can get my camra to cooperate ill post a pic later.

well then if only mine was that easy.... once i changed my lighting to a lower wattage and such it all died out in 3 days..(i swichted from incandescent to florscent lighting) maybe you should try the same if you can't get this stuff...

yeah that would probally be a good idea but then you have the potential of it comming back. its up to you thugh. good luck :)

I have used the same Tetra product and it works great. It does not harm the fish at all. I do not have plants in my tank, so I don't know if it will harm them or not.

Algae removing chemicals do work. Make sure it is plant safe if you have plants. :) I had the same problem last week. Added 3ml of some algae removing stuff, later the day, it was crystal clear.
