Reading a lot of post in this forum is a must.. before doing anything, read more!! :book: On with the post:

Went to the LFS to upgrade my lights and bought a Power-Glo light to go into my rio 240. 40W and 18000k, thinking that would be ok - asked one of the lads there and he said that should do me for what ever type of plants I have. Yea right!

That was at 5 days ago, now I have a lovely green tank. Thing is, yesterday it was only slightly off colour but today was quite green.

So, took the new light out and put the old one back in, and I've left the lights off all day - changed 20% of the water (not sure if it was going to help but Nitrates were up a bit).

I've added my CO2 (Bio System, now with a fresh home brew yeast mix) from my smaller tank - I was going to move it across once I'd transfered out the other fish... now thats been altered!

Now the recovery:
how long should I leave the lights off to cut the algae back? I don't want to keep them off for too long just in case I kill off the other plants...
The timer is now on a 5-2-5 cycle, should I keep it like this from now on, or switch it back to 12hours in a week or two?
I've also been using this Flourish Excel stuff, should I hold back - will it be feeding the algae too?

???? ???? ????

As per my post, I've done more reading and I've come up with a few more things

From the pictures I've seen I don't have an algae bloom. I don't have it close to the window, but direct sunlight does come onto it from about 8am until about 9am and then its only a small amount through the window and assuming that there is no clouds! :)

So this made me think that this a baterial bloom - please correct me - or the early stage of an algae bloom...

I've just taken this picture so you can see the layout of the room. BTW: this is the only window. (Just ignore the mess!)

Sorry mate cant help with the green water, although my large tank always has a green tint to it, but never really bothers me.

One thing I would say is that those speakers look quite powerful, having them loud and with lots of base I would have thought would stress the fish out as the vibrations and noise will scare them. Just a thought

Never had any green tint to any water myself... this just worried me a bit.

Not that powerful really - if everthing was to run at full its only a 5.1 @ 50W RMS system. Everyday TV is at a normal volume.. and films are just loud enough B)

All the speakers are mounted on granite slabs and have spikes in which isolate them from the floor. Except the centre speaker (black one, shelf under the plasma) which has rubber feet sitting on the isolation rack wich is designed to remove vibrations from eveything.

This stops the sound passing through the floor and into the furniture and tanks. The only thing that moves is the air (in theory!!) as the sound it being directed towards me the sound waves converge at one point making it lounder where we sit, meaning we don't have to have it turn it up loud at all.

I know that bass is omidirectional and directing the speakers makes no difference, but I've put my head where the tank is (just to make sure) and there doesnt seem to be that great a problem. Obviosly I've not put my head in the tank, but the fish don't seem to mind - the don't look breathless, aggitated or anything else for that matter.

Thinking of rearranging the room anyhow, but the tank is gonna have to stay there and I was wondering if the light from the window would make a difference...
