The bright red nose tells you he's a male, and my Tigers change colours quite regularly. I've seen a normal one's stripes turn from black to green to black again in about 1 minute flat before!! But I've never seen the red colouring dissapear.
If you only have 2, then that may be the problem. They really should be kept in groups of at least 6, and preferably 8 or more. I would suggest you go and get at least another 6 (provided you have room for them, and the tank is fully cycled!!!!) and see if that solves the problem.
