What is the minimum sixed tank for this? Perhaps a 29 gallon, it's 30 inches long.

Don't quote me, but I personally wouldn't have one in anything less than a standard 4ft (55gal) as a minimum. They're quite active, although you MAY be able to keep a single specimen in a 3ft tank.

The width of a tank is as important as its length in many ways. Male green terrors (I assume we're on about goldsaum's) can reach 12" with females smaller. Though many fish won't reach this size, I would say for males 10" is a good size, so I would say a 55 is the BARE MINIMUM for 1 fish with no tankmates, with a 75 being much much better.

A 29 is too small for a GT.

yes a 29 gal would be too small for a GT, my male was about 10inch.
Beautiful fish, he was in a 3x2x2 tank with a few sev and a seng poly.
Never saw him complain once.

I read on the net it got to 5 inches, maube specimens you guys had got longer. But hey that's why I asked.

nah they get way more than just five inches. its good you're able to clear things up here. i would have a 55g minimum really and even so i'm not too sure whether it'd be enough

i had a gt and he did great with his pals in the 100 gallon tank i have set up. but he committed suicide one day when i was at work. but he was a really beautiful guy!

Suicide? A fish can commit sicide?

im sure hel be fine in a 3 foot for a while, usualy when you buy them they are no were near full grown. depends if your planning on upgrading in the future.

may be wrong though

45 to 55 bare minimum by itself with dithers....

if you wish to keep other medium to large NW cichlids with it, would look into the triple digits for gallonage to spread aggression (the actual size depends on what other species and how many)

I would assume jumping out of the tank is the "suicide" that littlespitfire meant, though they could keep running into the glass or decor over and over but why it would do that.. I don't know, more likely it jumped out of the tank when it got spooked or was attacking food at the surface.

It will be fine in the 30 for now, but upgrading asap is def best to not take the risk of stunting the fish

A 29G will do for a short time as a grow out tank, but like said they do get big so a 55G minimum <this is just me BUT I would say a 75G for a adult male>
