when i bought my gt i thought it was a male and so did the lfs guy(scary?)when i got it home and it grew out a lil it started to look like a male, finally i got some sexing info on gt's and from what i got the uh?breeding tube?i believe is what they called it :S anyway if the tube points towards the back it's a female and forward is a male,is this right?
if so,don't male gt's grow a hump?and if that's corect then at what age do they grow it? :look: :ninja:

heeeeeeellllllppppp!!!please :)

:) Never heard of the tube pointing in different directions!!??? and being able to sex Terrors. Usually males have a pointed organ, with the female's being fatter and more blunt. The hump in males develops with age and maturity and with a size of up to 8" it may be a while yet depending on the size now. Mac.

so that info i got is way off huh?
i'm not sure if the forward pointing part was there i think i just assumed that but they definately said backwards is a female.
my gt is 7"s w/tail and no sign of a hump,so i guess it's a she?or is it to early yet?
also where can i get really good research material on sa/ca cichlids coz this isn't the first time i got some bad info :grr: (really bad info) :(

Just wanted to second the fact that I have never heard of the "breeding tubes" pointing in different directions as an idication of what sex the fish is either.

Mac pretty much hits the nail on the head with the nuchal hump growth indicator. It develops with age.

Just a brief note though...female C/S American fish can and do develop these humps as well, although not as pronounced as males. Therefore this is not an "absolute" method of sexing fish.

I have a link (at home( to a very good article on "venting" fish. I will try to post it this afternoon when I get home.

anyway if the tube points towards the back it's a female and forward is a male,is this right?

i tried doing a search on the forum that i got the info from, but i couldn't find it,i hope i just misunderstood them coz i don't think they'd give me some off the wall stuff like that and w/my memory :S i'm sure that's the case.
thanx guy's for setting me straight :)

i think the less traffic on a forum the better the info ime,
this has been the most helpfull site so far.

i think i'll start a file on my computer and store whatever GOOD info i get on my fish.
