hey all, im writing becuase about a month ago i bought a 2.5" GT and a 2.5" jag. I am taking the jag out of the 60 gal 4ft tank as it is way too aggressive now. I think my GT has a great temperament as it hasnt even nipped at the 4" red finned shark. (the GT is now about 4"). What are some possible tank mates for him?

I was thinking about maybe a few severums, or given the temperament what would you suggest?

yah i was thinking but i cant get a pair of cons or they will fight the GT. I thuoght firemouths were some of the most aggressive cichlids?

Firemouths are not that aggressive normally, its the GT you want to worry about. Mine won't tolerate anything except the 3 hoplo catfish that he grew up with, in fact if i try to add anything to the tank, he gets very protective of them. They are wonderful fish but are generally very aggressive.

I'm not saying don't try adding anything but be prepared to return fish if you have problems. If you do want to add other fish, you are better trying it now while he's still relatively small, it'll be much harder when he's full grown.

he should be kept with some more retireing fish, i have a male GT and hes only about 4 months old now and hes about 7", got him at 1". he gets battered by blood parrots and severums, go for something like sajica ? or blue eye cichlid, both are closely related.

hummm if he has been in this tank a while by him self he WILL NOT tollerate another cichlid in his tank, how about a school of tiger barbs or rainbow fish? or as i said earlier silver dollars ;)

Don't go for the severum. IMO they'll get too big with all that for a 60g. Go for a shoal of silver dollars. Another thing, I think the severum would be miserable... they're too peaceful for a GT. So I would'nt even go for 1. Maybe (correct me if I'm wrong) 4-6 silver dollars would be comfortable.

so is a red devil out of the question? how about if the devil is a bit smaller than the terror?

If not, a shoal of silver dollars with a GT as the piece de resistance would be pretty cool looking.

I wouldn't reccommend a red devil mixed with a GT unless you had a tank of 100 gal+, thats 2 seriously aggressive fish.

Silver dollars should work well and it is more likely that the GT will tolerate them as they are no real threat.

The problem with getting an oscar in this situation is that you would need to get a young one as the GT is small still. Couple that with the fact that Oscars are very fast growing, and Green Terrors are very slow growing, and it's a recipe for eventual serious bullying/worse.
