I got one of these on impulse and he is so cute....I have been researching and he seems quite happy....I have stuffed in a couple of snails in (as big as his eyeball! that's what it said) but he is ignoring them. Yesterday he had bloodworms in vitamin jelly much to the disgust of my bettas! I remember the last one I had years ago used to eat some dried food but cant remember what...I don't usually impulse buy (apart from bettas) but he is so cute...

The name "green spotted puffer" is applied to at least two species (and likely a complex of several species) that are, thankfully, all very similar in care. The two common species are Tetraodon nigroviridis and Tetraodon fluviatilis. Though aquarists like to think that Tetraodon nigroviridis is the only GSP, retailers don't make any such distinctions, so you might want to identify your fish a bit more carefully.

Aggressive, territorial, potential fin-nippers. Get to about 15 cm when full grown. Require medium strength brackish water to full strength seawater (SG 1.010-1.025) once more than about half grown; younger fish can be kept in low end brackish (SG 1.005). Fella has written a very good primer, here:

Congrats. on your new puffer. I have a pair of GSP's myself that I rescued from Walmart about 3 years ago. You will not be disapointed with your discission, if your not in love now you will be soon. What size tank is it in. I started mine out in a 10gl tank for the first 6 months, then moved them to a 30gl for the next 2 1/2 years, now I have moved them in to a 48gl about 2 months ago. They are fairly easy to care for as long as you keep on top of your water changes. Here are a couple pictures of mine. Their names are Beauty and the Beast as one is cuter and more timid the other one is a bigger in your face eating machine. Please give some pics. if you can.

Here is Beast:

They are so cute..I love mine already. I have a larger tank in the cellar trying to find somewhere to put it. I was going to ask if they need sand in bottom of tank but I can see yours have gravel.
My camera needs fresh batteries, just used hubby's camera and I have just got about 5 photos of a puffers tail disappearing from sight.....will wait until my batteries are ready :good: :good:

Not sure of tank but I am upgrading him slowly...so hubby doesnt notice...I have a really big tank in the cellar but need to find a way to set it up in place and leave it running without anyone noticing :hyper: any bright ideas anyone...

:hyper: he is actually quite fond of my gsp! spot can be nowhere to be seen hiding in his cave and when you look in front of tank he rushes out and starts a wiggle dance.. :shout:
