Hello, I have 2 questions that I think maybe some of you puffer owners out there can answer. For one, would a 36 gallon tank be suitable for a GSP to grow to a healthy 6". Also, I have noticed that during the evening my GSP gets a black stripe under his spots that runs from the beginning of his tail to his mouth. But during the day, the stripe seems to disappear. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks

A puffers colour cna change quite easily. What SG is he currently in? A friend of mine keeps a similar species and has found that it has a dark stomach when there are brighter lights...

As for growing out, how big is he now? Water quality is probably just as great a factor as tank size, so a 36g for a small GSP wiouldn't be so bad, just keep on top of water changes, don't feed, and upgrade when you're ready.

Well, his SG is currently 1.006, and he is only about 2", but I have heard that you will gradually want to up the SG as he grows bigger. Do you know if this is correct? Also, I do a 20% water change each week, is that ideal? Oh, and thanks for the help.

Keep at 1.006, that's a pretty decent salinity for any mid-high brackish puffer I'd say, especially at 2". Just give it time to grow into his new environment. They're quite slow growers.

And 20% a week sounds fine.

No worries, sounds like you've done the right thing all along :)

If you post any pics, let me know!

Oh, and Fella, you said to upgrade when i'm ready. What size tank would you reccommend to upgrade to.

Hi

I had my GSP for about 2 years now. He started of in a 55 gal at 1.005, because I bought a big tank for my other fish I put him in there at about 1.010. But they are very slow growers. He is the smallest fish in my tank. Don’t worry about the black stripe. When mine gets upset he sulks and he changes colour, sometime he sits at the bottom of the tank.
