Hello all,

I have been reading some of the topics and solutions here and so far I can say I have not done everything correctly. That being said I am coming around now. My question is this: I have a GSP(Puffy) that is about 1.5 inches long and is very active, but today I noticed that he has dulled in color. He has a spot on his back the size of a dime that is his std color, but he has this darkened skin that is a little darker around the sides of his mouth.

Anyone have a clue what may be going on and how to help him?

He is in only a 10 gal tank with a Yellow Lab Cichlid and they have been getting along fine for about 1.5 months. They do not seem to be attacking each other. I tested the water today and the results were as follows.

pH 7.9
Ammonia 0 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrate 80 ppm

My understanding is that the Nitrates are high, so I did a 30% water change. I was feeding them after the water change and noticed the discoloration.

Any help would help

GSPs require brackish water, If kept in freshwater they easily become sick and die.
The high nitrate level also is not helping the situation.

Both fish you have require a much larger tank
