Green Spotted Or F8?

In a 30G you would indeed be fine with 2 F8 puffers and 6 BBG

Or a single GSP

Cool, are a few juvies out of the question then?

tbh I think you would find it next to impossible to rehome them to someone prepared to keep them in the right conditions,

Keeping it alone should also bring out a stronger character/personality in the puffer

I can feel your torment about the choice you have to make

I have to say the thing that stopped me getting a gsp initially was the mixing of the salt water etc. and I ended up getting a pair oof F8s and a swarm of bbg's (not that i regret it at all as they are full of character). Now I have been keeping marine tanks for some time I would be only too happy to have a gsp as I understand the needs of the fish and am used to mixing my water etc :D

Whatever you decide, you will love your puffer/s!

I'm getting a gsp :)

ive got a 125litre tank, im having 1 gsp, raising him through brackish and into marine as he gets older, and then eventually, keeping a few marine fish with him, and maybe getting live rock and a few corals.

All day my choice has been GSP but i'm not sure if i like the idea of having to convert to full marine eventually. Would i need a protien skimmer? Different heater and filter? Plus the extra cost of using more salt.

Then if i do go for F8s i might just stick with them as the gobies are difficult eaters, i don't want to be spending a couple of £ a week on fish food as they'll only eat live.

Will piffers eat Malyasian Trumpet Snails? I could buy 30 of them for a few £ and put them in a tank to multiply and give me a constant supply of food, plus a bag of live food a week which costs about 40pence.

Will they eat household pests like spiders and woodlice, flies?

I might just go for what will be the cheapest running costs? Got a baby coming so i don't want a tank costing me around £5 a week.

Most F8s will be quite easily trained onto prawns, mussels, squid etc.. You can buy these fromn the Asda an such for a few pound for a decent sized bag that will last a while. The BBG's will also probably eat this, mine used to love it, but if not frozen brine shrimp do the trick now with them

Don't forget that spiders are poisonous, woodlice and flies would be fine though.

GSP's don't need full marine, anywhere above SG1.010+ at 25degC will be fine however they do reportedly do well in marine conditions

As said, they don't need full marine conditions so the answer to those questions is no.

BBGs can be fussy eaters but I've had all 9 of mine for 2 years and they love live and frozen foods. If you have a good flow in the tank the food will whizz on the current and the gobies will chase after it thinking it to be live.

The shells will probably be too hard for their beaks and would have to be crushed by you prior to feeding them into the tank. My F8s would just look at mts and then bitetheir feet off leaving the rest of the snail to rot in the tank. Pond snails and ramshorn snails are suitable as they are soft enough for them to crush.

If you're worried about running costs, why go for a puffer that needs the additions of marine salt to the tank? Why not think of the South American Puffer or another freshwater puffer? No need to pay out for salt and hydrometers or refractometers then. :D
