Hey everyone,

A friend of mine had a neon tetra die on him late last week. There were no signs of fungus, fin damage, ich or other parasites to my knowledge. The only noticable irregularity was a green patch on the skin above its left anal fin. The patch is not fuzzy, nor raised. Rather, it is internal like a bruise. It is unknown how much time past between the green patch developed and death. Nothing longer than a day where it behaved normally. The NT died in the morning.

At the moment, there is a Sunburst Platty in the same tank that is developing this green patch. However, he is still eating and behaving normally. He has had the patch for three days now and seems in healthy condition. No rubbing, gasping, lack of appetite, or anything of that sort.

The water conditions are fine. 0 nitrate, nitrite; 6.8 pH, water hardness is a little hard (200 ppm), and KH is around 80.

Any clue what this green patch of skin is? Thanks in advance!

the only thing I've ever heard about concerning green patches on fish is algea, caught under the scales, this was on a goldfish the had been in a pond with blanket weed in it.
I've never heard of a green patch "growing" on a tropical fish

all I can suggest is isolating the affected fish and observe for any other signs that may help ID what is wrong.
