When we went to the lfs last week, there were 2 small green tetras left from a large shoal that we had seen before. On speaking to the shop owner, he said they were the last 2 and all the rest had died....I know what your thinking....

So, the wife likes them so we bring them home and put them in our established tank. All good...

One week on and they both have small white spots on them and one of our neons has one small spot on its tail.

Anything I can do for tonight to try to stop/cure/postpone this before we can get to lfs tomorrow?
Only medication we have is eSHa Hexamita which I dont think is any good for this.

Wife is pretty sure they all looked fine earlier. Is it normal for it to come on this quick?
Thanks in advance.

Other than isolating the fish that have the problem, there isn't much you can do until you get to your LFS.
Do you have a spare tank that you can keep them in?

Whitespot is not fatal to a normal, healthy fish; certainly not overnight! If the fish are at the stage of having spots (which are cysts), it'll be in the tank now anyway, so it's a wase of time trying to separate them.

Yes, it does come on very quickly once you've got it. I used eSHa exit when my green neons had it and it was gone within three days, with no fatalities.

Sorry for not posting back last night. Dont have another quarantine tank, only a new setup that probably isnt cycled etc but wouldnt want to get that infected...

Good to know its not fatal. we were amazed at how quickly the spots became apparent. Last night it was on the 2 green tetras and one neon, this morning several of our other fish have got them but only the odd spot.
Have treated with a little bit of salt and some White Spot Control made by King British, tank now has a very nice green tint.
Have taken the carbon out of the filter.

Any other suggestions? I was going to do a water change and clean the gravel but the lfs said this treatment would be good for now and after treatment finished, then do a water change as normal. Said not to change too many things at once.

So, keeping fingers crossed and thanks for the replies.
