I am moving and have totally stripped my tank but noticed what I thought was moss taking over was actually green hair algae.

I have took all my ornaments and rocks out and have them soaking in boiling hot water. I then plan on scrubbing all algae off. Then boxing them up in complete darkness until I move. Will this kill the algae or when I reset and recycle my tank will it suddenly reappear?

I am also changing all gravel to sand upon moving so no worries on spores remaining in there.

Could adding salt to the boiling hot water help kill it? Or any special treatments? I am popping to my LFS tomorrow but dont want them to sell me anything for the sake of it, as some do.

Forgot to mention it was a tropical not marine tank

If you scrub it off and have them dry and boxed up any algae will have died off. The only thing that would make it come back is if the conditions that were there to start it off are present again. E.g. too much light.

I have the light issue sorted I left my tank to the skills of my other half while I was away who I would say is not as ocd and caring as myself. I will spend the time chaging water cleaning glass and doing checks. I would say she only changed water and "that was good enough".

Glad to know that cleaning boiling and boxing up should be good.

Thanks
