I hope someone can help with this. From what I can find this is an "algal bloom". I have been doing daily water changes (about 50 litres about 12 gallons) but the water remains cloudy. My tank is about 230 litres or about 57 gallons. There is also a pretty bad smell to the water. I don't want to use chemicals but I am getting frustrated.

Regards,

Cut the amount of light that tank gets daily (Ex: 12 hours of light, to 7 hours of light, also close any blinds that may let sunlight into the tank) and do larger and more frequent water changes. The tank won't clear up right away, but it will clear up if faster with my suggestions :)

Thanks for that, I have completely stopped the fluoro's. The blinds are open but the tank does not get direct sunlight. Does that matter?

As long as the tank isn't getting too much light the algae should start to clear up, and with the only light being indirect sun, the tank should get clearer :)
