Hiya, I've had my tank for about 4 months now and I have quite a lot of green algae on my undergravel filter tube and on the glass i keep on removing it by using my algae scraper, is this okay? Is it also true that green algea develops because of good water conditions? I dont think i really want to use any treatments for it if its because of good water.
My ammonia is 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 10ppm is this too high? I'll do a water change if it is.
Tank temp: 25 c
Thanks

Do you have any plants? A lot of plants feed on the same stuff as green algea does and will use up the nutrients killing off the algea. Some really durable plants are java fern, and java moss.
Good idea not using any additives they are a lot more harm then good.
:) be super glad you dont have brown algea even uglier and harder to fight.

I'm afraid the answer there is no
A bit of algae is fine and normal.
If things get out of hand and it grows a lot, then there is a problem somewhere - it generally points to poor tank maintenance. But there are soooooo many factors that contribute or are the cause of algae problems.
If it's something you can easily take care of and it's not a problem, they I wouldn't worry - but if you want to know more about algae, check out the pinned topics in the planted section.

It's very good.

Green algae is not a bad thing especially if it only the stuff that coats the glass. Fish like platies love to feed on algae like that and getting a suckermouth plecostomous can sometimes help keep algae down. However this is not a good idea if yuo do not have a large tank they can grow up to 60cm. I don't use chemicals to remove algae as I feel they can do more harm than good. A well planted aquarium can also reduce algae but by the sounds of it you don't have much to worry about. A little bit of green algae is perfectly normal and can just be removed every time you clean the tank. :)
