So, after watching me use a hairclip to hold my python hose into place countless times, a friend of mine made me the most awesome contraption EVAH!
Don't laugh at me if this is fairly common because I was WAY impressed. I'm new to the whole "python usage", and I thought some of you might like to copy her idea.

I'd also be interested in hearing how you hold your python hose in place. I tried everything- the clip worked the best but even that popped off now and then and my hose would come flying out.

Actually, I haven't seen a python like that :p Ours hooks up to the sink faucet and has a syphon at the end to go into the tank :)

I use a regular gravel vac for removing water since it's such a waste to run the water to make it syphon down the drain. I just drop my hose out the window and drain instead. Then I have that green thingamabobber hooked up to the sink to fill with. It's very awesome, I've been scared of them for so long since my lfs made me python shy, but now I'll never go back :)

I've decided I really need a phython now ! Perhaps I should put one on my Christmas wishlist
Good tip though - I'll keep it in mind when I get mine :)

One of my water change tools is a return crook from an eheim filter hose, i just push it into the end of my garden hose that i use to refill the tanks and hook it over the side just like your friends contraption. When im slowly refilling 80 gallons of water after a 40% change i like to be able to just leave the tank filling and get on with other stuff.

I'm going to sound like an idiot here, but do you put the water from the taps into the tank using the python? If so, how do you know the temps correct, and do you declorinate straight away.
Cheers.

That's what used to make me nervous. Now I just pour dechlorinator in as I start up the hose. Getting the temp correct is tricky. You have to find the perfect setting but in my experience the fish don't mind waiting for you to find it. When I use mine I'm usually filling more than one tank so I find the perfect temperature and leave the water running til I'm done. I am a nervous nelly so I'm constantly running and sticking my hand in the out flow to check.
bloo, get one
CFC< I knew you'd have something handy!

I dont even bother to match the temperatures (though i understand why wuv does as she is mostly changing the water in fry tanks which are more sensative to changes) i just run coldwater straight into the tanks. 99% of fish honestly dont mind a drop of 2 or 3 degrees (centigrade) during the time a water change takes. In winter when the tapwater is cooler i just run the water back into the tank slower so that the heaters can keep up with the temperature drop.

I agree that you don't have to be too particular about the temp, my fish really don't seem to mind. Sometimes it gets ice cold...the other night it was HOT for a minute or two and I flipped out but the fish didn't seem to even notice.

Luke, I think I'd actually prefer a faucet like yours. It's easier to regulate the water that way.

Yea, its useful, but tricky to get it right.
Might purchase one of these pythons, havent seen any in the LFS, i'll have a look on the net.
Or does anyone know where i can get them from in the UK? I dont have the patients to make my own (seen the thread).
Cheers.

Voila ! :)

Yeah i need an attachment something like that, at the moment i use an over sized clamp to hold my DIY python, im allways nervous the clip will spring off it just about fits, it works reasonably ok but thats a much better arrangement you have, i have a hot and cold mixer on my sink so its just a question of getting the right temprature as i pour the water into the tank.

A good few of us in the planted section do 50% water changes every week on our tanks, so a good way to do water changes is a must, ive seen pretty much the exact same thing that your friend has made once before on a planted tank forum.

Luke......the link bloozoo gave you is how i made my python its pretty easy, just read through the thread a couple of times and list what you need, its well worth the effort of making one if you have any sort of a large tank, before i made the python i used buckets.........when i think back now i must have been crazy........
