Hello,

I have a tank with a whole ton of subwassertang attached to ornaments and driftwood. My fish absolutely love it, the fry like to hide in it and any stressed females can dissapear into there pretty fast, and most the fish just hang out by it all the time. I was cleaning my tank with a gravel vac as I spotted some debris on the bottom, and I was curious so I hovered the vac right above my subwassertang and ended up collecting just a ton of brown gunk.

I'm assuming its mostly fish waste and food leftovers, as the subwassertang is the highest part of my tank and also right near where I usually deposit the food (Though I tend to spread it around but there is a lot of subwassertang).

I guess I'm wondering if for the future it would be good to gravel vac the subwassertang and mosses (which like to collect tons of fish poop) or if I should leave it as natural nutrients for the plants. They are all healthy plants, and I have no need for them to grow much (need to trim them soon) so they don't need any "extra" fertilizer. I'd rather remove gunk than have water issues, but if you think the gunk won't affect water quality or that the plants need it I will leave it be in the future

Hi @guppypups it's waste building up it's always best to vacuum to hold it down as it can cause water issues, have you checked them to see if your water levels are fine.

most plants will hold some of the waste, i just waft my hand over the plant to disturb any waste. leave for 30-60 mins for it to settle on the sand then vac out. saves pulling the plants out through the vac
