Gravel To Sand

hi,
i have a 12 gallon tank with gravel. i want sand. how do i switch it? idealy, i could add sand and keep the gravel to get a cool mix. i want to gat a cool floor, like big colorful rocks, some drift wood and a fake plant. fake because... well... my signature says it all.

not sure how to take gravel out and put sand in without making a mess but to save you some cash
try play sand what you put in sandpit from argos, tescos ect really cheap and its non toxic
just make sure you wash it out first loads rinse it under tap for a while then rinse it again
dont put it into tank first it has loads of foam comes off it rinse rinse and rinse again dunt take too long
ive put coral sand as well with mine and it looks really nice

Simply just take the gravek with ya hand, or the way i did was just vacumed them all out (nearly all)... i acutally left some on to build the back of the tank up so i didnt have to use loads of sand...

I got my sand from argos and its great...

Like above says, rinse it very well..

no coral sand, i have rams in there and the colal sand would NOT help the pH but thanks for the ideas.

i'm pretty sure gravel has a lot of good bactiria that i would not want to lose.

What filter are u using? more or less the bacteria is in your filter so it shouldnt effect it at all, i did this with all my tanks and they stats stayed fine.
