My son's Black Moor Hesky has a large piece of gravel stuck in his mouth. Its firmly wedged and he's going frantic trying to get it out but its not moving. There is just the tiniest of spaces at the side of the gravel and his mouth so I'm worried he could suffocate.

Have heard of people using clove oil to make the fish sleepy so they can remove things, but I'm worried of overdoing it and killing him. I use clove oil to euthanase fish but don't know how much to use just to sedate.

Any ideas? His body is around 3 inches long and he's about an inch wide so quite a size.

Son is getting very upset and thinks he's going to die. I've attempted to remove objects out of young guppies before but never anything this size hence wanting to sedate him first.

There is a procedure you can do on a fish when something gets lodge like with us but forgot how to do it, wrap the fish in a wet towel, wet from the tank water, i will have to go and look for you.

Can't find it it's over a year ago you press on the tummy i think, can you get it out with a pair of tweezers.

Ok thanks Wilder.

I went back to the tank to find him lying on the bottom on his side, so took him out and put him on a damp towel and tried to remove it with tweezers. He suddenly flipped around and it shot out

He's back in the tank now and swimming around. I've turned the light off and will add a little salt just in case he cut his mouth as its quite sharp gravel.

Will have to change it soon as its the second time he's done this, but last time he got it out himself.

Son is now happy again :)

Thank god for that, mine have done it but they manage to get it out there self, panick over, bless him.

Nothing like an adrenalin rush on a wet Wednesday evening

This was so badly wedged that after an hour of trying he wasn't going to get it out. When I saw him looking lifeless at the bottom I thought, what the heck, he's going to die anyway may as well try and remove it. I think I twisted it and he just flopped and it shot out

bloomin' fish

Been there with mine panicking hoping they get it out there selfs, there always digging in the gravel looking for food, think they never got fed, lol.
