Gravel/sand For Tanganyika Cichlids

Hi,

I was out at Petco looking at the reptile section and I see these fine sand the claims to have lotsa calcium carbonate. I was just wondering if anyone has ever used those with African cichlids?

ive never used anything like that but regular playsand works great for freshwater tanks
just makesure you wash before putting it in your tank

also: playsand is very cheap at under $4 for a 50lb bag which could probably cover up to a 30gallon tank maybe 50

I'm not sure if reptile sand will work in a fish tank. However, you can use aragonite sand (found in the saltwater fish section) which is made up of calcium carbonate and will help buffer your water.
