Gravel Or Sand?

i was wondering what would be the best to have or is it just a cosmetic thing?

If all you have is a betta, then it's totally up to you. Your betta could care less what substrate is used, or even IF you use one! Whether to use gravel or sand only comes in to play when you get some bottom dwellers, like cories (who love sand).
