hi people
does anyone know how things would work out if i use small granite rock pieces as aquarium gravel? the kind used for meatlled roads? would it affect water ph or something? i got a new 125 gallon tank and this is the cheapest alternative as gravel.

Granite shouldn't have any effect on your pH (although if I remember my geology correctly, granite is usually a composition of several minerals pressed together over time so it possibly could) but it is usually pretty sharp-edged so bottom feeders such as corys probably wouldn't do well with it.

Granite is an inert igneous rock that you can definitely use in your aquarium. It is basically made from molten rock and consists of quartz, feldspar, and mica. I have some larger pieces of granite in my aquarium for decoration. If you are using it as a substrate, just watch that it isn't too sharp for bottom feeders as mentioned above. It will not affect your water chemistry.
