what colour gravel should i get? :)

ooh and can you get plants for coldwater tanks?

A dark substrate is always nice. I had dark then went to light. I don't like it and now I'm trying to cover the gravel with ground cover to hide it. I found that the fish and shrimp colours pop more on a dark bottom and/or back round. Cold water plants-java fern, hornwort. Look at what they sell for ponds and you'll find many.

Good luck with your decision

Natural is always good :good: The dark gravel I had before was a blend of darker river rock(3-5mm in size). It looked natural because it was various natural colours. You can also get the lighter natural gravel which I got but I feel like it's too light. Maybe if my lighting was more dim it wouldn't look so blinding lol.

I personally always advise the finer natural gravel in te slightly darke shade.

Black Substrate - fish that dont colour up to their full potential and some fish lose colour and go very drab.

White substrate - complete algae magnet, will be green gravel within a month!

We sell two colours of natural gravel 'arctic' (white) and nordic (riverbed light brown). Then in different sizes. Finer stuff is better for plants and stops the fish waste collecting right underneath it.

White substrates aren't algae magnets, they will only become covered in algae if something your tank is causing algae, be it excess light, limited nutrients, poor circulation.

Any gravel will be fine as long as you're happy with the colour and it is inert.

What do you think? I think it looks a lot better :D

nice.. do you know what would make it look nicer? a 3D background.

this is 11 months ago.. when new.. :good:

Good job on the gravel.
I cannot understand all these shocking blues, greens, yellows, pinks and whatever other colour gravel people buy. Whilst living in any sized tank is nowhere near like their natural enviroment I believe all I can do is 'try' to make its surroundings as natural as possible.
