Went to Pets at home for a wander today... Looked in the plant tank (its more of a trough really).... Well, well! Two baby fish! How they got in there I don't know. I pointed them out to the worker, who took one out and put it in an empty tank. Buuttt....
We're going there tomorrow. If the other one is still in there (ie, alive), I'll either steal it or ask if I can have it. I assume its livebearer. About a cm long and black. If I do get one/both/more (hey, who knows what could be hiding there...), they'll probably go in the 1 gallon for now. It makes most sense, they've been living in coldwater and its better to put one or so 1cm fry in a 1 gallon than it is to put a 3 inch betta in. So, anyway. Foodwise, will BBS and crushed up flakes be OK? Once they grow up, I'll get a right size tank dependant on what they turn out to be. So thats not a problem. Should I bother heating them? They must have lived their entire lives in coldwater, I see no point in putting them in heated. Especially as according to my thermometer, room temp. water is in the 'safe zone' for tropical fish. Also, should I put a plant in the 1 gallon? I'll get one anyway if it comes to stealing, but should I put one in anyway?

Hang on a moment, what makes you believe they are livebearer fry? its just as posible, in fact more likely they are danios(because danios lay their eggs on plants), if you can post a pic i will be able to help give you an idea on what type of fry they are and this is important as different types of fry have different needs.
If you can get a pic of the fry that would be realy helpful :)

I assumed they were livebearers because they were black (unless they get a lot lighter as they get older, I've never seen black danios), and they make babies a lot easier. How they got there I have no idea, but the main point is the colouring.

After a quick google search, they look most like baby black mollys. But I'll look up platies and guppies, although I don't think its the latter.

They don't really need to be kept in a warm tank, especially since they aren't accustomed to it. The tank size should be just fine for that single fry as long as you keep the water clean, and BBS and crushed flakes will also be quite adequate (in fact, adding the BBS and not going with JUST crushed flakes is a very good move as far as I'm concerned).

You can add a plant if you want to. It's not really necessary, but it won't hurt anything as long as the plant gets the necessary light.

Thankee Kiarra. If by some chance I end up with both (or if more have appeared) I can either swap things around a bit with the bettas or go and get a 3 gallon. I hope its still there, I'm getting excited....
