I'm stocking my 54 partially with gouramis.

I can't remember the proper ratio to avoid too much agression between the species.

I bought a gold male and a blue female.

I'd like to know the proper stocking.

I think IIRC females will not have agression and I should limit it to one male but I can't recall.

p.s. I'm refering to Trichogaster trichopterus

In the case of T. trichopterus, I'd get 2 females and one male male. It's better to have the male's attention spread out among several females, instead of having one being chased all the time. Just provide plenty of hiding places among plants and other decorations, and they should all get along. In that size tank two males are a bad idea, as you remembered yourself.

Unfortunately this tank Currently has no plants.

My wet/dry makes it nearly impossible to grow plants as a matter of fact.

I may try fake if I can find realistic ones. However there is some good rockwork to take evasive action in.

Gouramis and plants, especially plants that float on or reach the surface, really go together. I do recommend you try to find some fake ones.

The tank looks very nice though. :)

Well seems my mail was just too agressive. He had all 3 of the females cowering in fear. So I rehomed him to my 46G bow front. He seems to be doing just fine now in there. Though the tigerbarbs are trying to figure out if he can be their new swim friend and he doesn't seem too interested (the school of tiger barbs are now 6 tiger barbs 2 baby clown loaches and one Botia angelicus and they all swim tightly together)

Make Sure the gourmis are about the same size as each other... differences in size causes bullying of the smaller ones. Trust me on this one... I have lost many gouramis this way.

Yeah the male was nearly an inch larger than the others.
