I have a couple of neon gouramis in my 23 gal tank. They were ok till a few days back. Then all of a sudden both of them decided to go undercover, meaning they were hiding behind the bogwood log all day long. I kept an eye on them, but didn't notice any diseases. They stopped eating 2-3 days ago, then I knew something was wrong.

I did a WC just in case, but it didn't seem to help. Now they are just sitting at the bottom, barely breathing. They aren't bloated up or anything. Even the colour's normal. I added some general-aid medicine yesterday along with some salt, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Please Help!! what do I do now?

Other fish are absolutely fine. I dont know the ammonia, nitrate, nitrite levels, coz I dont get testing kits here. But the tank is well established and I do wc's regularly.

how many gouramis do you have and are they neon dwarf gouramis. Are they males or females?what other fish are in the tank
I had two dwaft gourami males and they killed eachother.Hiding at first then they just gave up and died, both of them because they are very territorial fish

I would quarantine them if you can. I had a dwarf g that did that same thing. A day or so later I noticed white poo, then a day or so later he died. I think they are prone to bacterial infections due to inbreeding, so it may be that they were just both unhealthy when you bought them. I'd remove them from the tank if you can.

Yes, both of them are neon dwarf gouramis. I've got 4 widow-tetras and 3 zebra danios with them in the tank.

One of them has died, and the other, I think will be soon joining its friend...doesn't look good at all. Going to quarintine it in my one gallon bowl, will that be ok?

dwarf gouramis are prone to internal parasites. I have one and he gets parasites constantly. I would quarantine him asap, but i don't think he will last without a filter. I hope someone can advise you better, when I quarantine mine it is in a 5 gal. tank that has a filter and heater. You might want to bring a water sample to your lfs. all of them have the ability to test the water for you.

I'm not too sure about how fast ammonia and nitrite will build up without filtration, but since you are in india your temperature probably will be fine. I just realized my betta's heater was unplugged since last night, and the temp in there was fine, and its maybe 75 out.

The other gourami went bye-bye too yesterday night. So how could I have treated this disease anyway? Internal parasites must have been the case, since the others are fine.
