Hello again all,

I also have another beginner question, but it's seperate from my cycling issue in my other post.

Once the tank is cycled, I'd like to add 2 neon blue dwarf gouramis and perhaps some neon tetras. I've been looking into their compatability, but I haven't really found anything. My tank is 5.5 gallons, so I want fish like these that I think are really beautiful but won't grow larger than 2" or so. I'm wondering if people had any success/failure with keeping these 2 species in a community. I've read conflicting info about gouramis. I've read that they're very peaceful and timid, and I've also read they can be territorial. I'm hoping to get more specific info about neon blues in particular because those are the ones I really like.

In regards to the neon tetras, I'm wondering if it would be a problem to only buy 3 instead of 5 or 6. I've read that they do best in larger groups, but again, my tank is small so I don't want to overload it with 2 gouramis and 5 tetras or so. But I love the neon tetras, and would like to keep a few with a pair of slightly larger fish.

Any thoughts on this would be great. Thanks.

5 gallons is too small for neon tetras, they're very active fish and need 10 gallons+ really, and to be in groups of 6+

i'm not sure if 5 gallons is also too small for gourami.

a 5 gallon tank is very difficult to stock, very few species can tolarate a tank that small.

Gouramis are very territorial indeed but ive never seen anything to suggest they are aggressive. I have 2, they both "own" a different side of the tank but never attack anything else if it happens to swim by. I cant see them being a problem with tetras..!

Everything ive read says 5 gallons is too small for a dwarf gourami, it requires a 80 L (20 gallon) tank minimum according to the second website link, down this post a little bit

Heres some info on dwarf gouramis: http://www.petresources.net/fish/anaban/col_lal.html

you could get a betta, 2 bettas if you divided the tank

I agree, i think the tank is far to small, you could use it as a hospital tank though. tetras might not get along with a gourami coz as the other people say thay like there space.
