Hi
I've got a Rekord 60 with 1 female dwarf gourami (male died 3 weeks ago for no apparent reason), 3 black neons, 1 kuhli loach and 1 hoplo cat. It has been running for 3 months now and was cloned from an old tank. Ammonia and nitrites are 0, pH is pretty much 7 and I do 30% changes weekly.
The female gourami is behaving very strangely and swimming frantically around the tank - she is also flicking quite a lot and keeps staying by the filter inlet. I am treating for whitespot but there are no signs of anything at all on her and the other fish are acting normally and also look fine.
Has anyone got any advice or suggestions about what this is?
I am concerned that she might also die for no reason like the male did? Could she be stressed that she is on her own? I am planning to replace him quite soon but I didn't want to do it immediately after he died in case there was a problem with disease in the tank so I left it for a bit, but all seems fine (apart from her being weird) so I think it is safe to go ahead now.
Could it be this mysterious gourami virus??? I did actually get them both from a very dodgy lfs shop when I got the first tank so it wouldn't surprise me if they were actually just very old or something. The shop didn't give me good advice and sold me a plec for a 30cm cube tank! - plec now has new home though.
I am also having problems with my juwel powerhead which seems to be on its last legs and I'm not sure if this is a factor (ie lack of surface movement?)????. It keeps slowing down and is much noisier than usual . I have had it out and given it a good service but it is all unblocked and works fine for 30 minutes so I go out but when I come back into the room it has practically stopped. Could this be a problem do you think? I am going to buy another one this afternoon after work and I have nursed it through the night by kickstarting it as much as I can.
Not sure if I should have put that bit in another thread but as I am going to replace the powerhead this afternoon (hoping and praying they have one!) I didn't think is was so important.
Any help or suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks

Darting around the tank can be a sign of a parasite.
If there flicking alot with no visable symtoms could be flukes.
Check the gills to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.
Yhe juwel filters are not that good, I run another filter with the juwel one, or you could remove the box and just run the new filter, but you would have to use your juwel sponges by cutting them up to fit into the new filter.

Thanks for the advice Wilder
I have ordered a new pump anyway today which will arrive on wednesday - tried 3 lfshops and they didnt have the right one. I have put an airpump in for now though and am hoping that will keep the water moving enough to keep them well until then.
The fish really seem fine apart from the gourami and even she has no visible problems and her gills look fine and there is no redness etc. I will crack on with the white spot treatment though and finish the course just in case. Do you think there is anything else I should try? Could "flukes" be invisible and should I treat for that too/instead of?? I don't want to go into overkill with the meds. Also, will the filter media be ok until Wednesday? It is still in the filter casing and in the tank and is fully submerged so it won't dry out but it isn't being filtered as such - just concerned about the bacteria dying??
Very grateful!

Remove the med it could be poor water quality, for now I would see what the new filter does.
Darting around can be meds as well, so I would remove it as it might be that.
Here a link to flukes but not totally convinced yet that it could be these.
