Gourami Stocking Help

Gourami can have as varied of personality as any fish, though I've known more aggressive males than passive ones in the 3spot category. One of my beta males became an alpha male after being isolated from other gourami for a period of time. Right now he's as happy as can be as the only gourami in a 30g staring at me from under some wood. He doesn't like the bright lights I have for the plants (gourami really love floating plants, but they're all illegal in my area).
