Hi

I have had a opaline gourami for about a year (female) she is quite bossy usualy and has been agressive in the past. well last week I brought anouther opaline gourami wich is also female but is half her size according to the pet shop they are fine in pairs.

Yet she wont leave the younger one alone soon as she catches sight shes chasing her round the tank yet shes never niped any of the younger ones fins. I think shes slowly working her out because the younger one follows behind her now and they swim together till she turns around again!

Its funny to watch and looks crule at the same time.

any ideas?

Carl

Classic aggression. You should have never added a smaller gourami to the tank.

I would recommend returning the smaller one to the store, and getting one that's closer to your gourami's size. Otherwise the bullying will continue, and could really stress out both your fish.

Agreed. I bought 2 female pearls at the same time, both the same size to cheer up my older male, which they did. However he died a couple of weeks ago, since then the girl who grew the biggest started to become very aggressive towards the other one, nipping her fins and then she ravaged a new angel I added to the tank a few days ago. Take the smaller one back and try for a larger male.
