I have a lovely gold gourami who I think is a female, she is pretty stunning but I feel a friend would be better for her, would she mix okay and become friends with another different type of gourami or should I buy another goldie? I would try very hard to get another female but sometimes in my local shop its hard to see when they have just had a delivery though they do spend ages trying to get the right sex for you!! She lives with 3 mollies by the way as I have just started stocking the tank! :)

ETA its a 200L btw.

Dont mix gours excluding if they are of same size fully grown and moodyness it normaly ends in tradgerty imo

They would be the same size as I have had mine for only a short period of time... Would you just leave her on her own then? :)

they should be on a ratio of 2 females per male but ive never kept honeys only dwarfs and opalines
have u a picture of them??

i had 2 male 3 spotted in the same tank for the same amount of time together from the same shop and over time one became the other's ***** pretty much wouldnt let it out of the corner of the tank so i had too get rid :(

Three Spot Gourami variations, including Blue, Gold, Opaline, Platinum, Lavender, etc. are all very aggressive, even the females. I would try adding a slightly larger Pearl Gourami to the mix. They are much more docile & relaxed so make sure the Pearl female is larger than your current Gold female. My Opaline & Pearl females get along great for the most part.

Pearl Gouramis are one of the more peaceful gouramis i have come across. They won't be a problem with aggression i don't think. They look stunning when healthy too.

i have a 29 gallon with a female gold a female pearl and a rather large male opaline. i had the opaline first and when i was alclamating the 2 females he was actually biting the bag trying to get at them, i spent about 20 minuuts "training" him, by chasing him away with the handle of my net everytime he got agrressive. they have been living happily for about 6 months now with no issues.
