Gourami Just Ate Fry

I just gave the tank a good clean removed everything including plants, stones, wood, pump etc, done a 50% water change then I looked at the tank for a while to discover two baby platys, they looked to big for a fish to eat and they was trying to swim into the water current by the pump, anyway the gourami see them both, swam really fast and gulped them both, I have seen other fry before and wondered where they dissapeared, well I guess it must of been the gourami. Kinda sad but I guess its a good way to keep down fry.

If you want the fry to survive next time, dont remove everything from the tank, and if you want more than just 2 to survive,add lots of hiding places. I have livebearers in my 240L tank but none of their fry ever survive due to my other stocking.. In fact, In the 7 months i've had the livebearers i ahve yet to see a single fry..Havent even seen them giving birth

After my first post I decided to take all my plants out of the tank as wanted to get rid of the rockwool and just plant into the gravel, whist doing this I found another 2 baby platys which had more colouration than the other two but they swam behind the filter where they should be safe as its too narrow for fish to get in there. Hope they pull through!

Does anyone know how long it take for Platys to be big enough so other fish don't eat them, my gourami is the biggest fish but my sailfin molly has a bigger mouth.
