Hello,

One of my dwarf gouramis has dropsy and I started to treat it from yesterday with an internal parasite treatment. Today it is definately turning to a dark grey/black colour which is bizarre as its a red striped fishy.

It is swimming around the tank slightly happier but has a long very thin line of faeces trailing from it

Any suggestions?

Can we take a look at your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What colour is the long poo.

You put interna parasite med do you mean internal bacteria med.

Yes thats the medication I meant to say sorry!

All stats are spot on to the guide in my api testing kit apart from the nitrate which has always been slightly over, the problem is that the tap water is initially high and the pre treatment med I put in only lowers this slightly!

Its a constant battle with our water condition here.

Do you mean the whole body is turning black.
Black patches can be ammonia burns to cancer.
But a fish can go darker in colour with a bacterial infection.
Long stringy white poo can be bacterial as well, but can also be consipation to internal parasites.

Yes its like a shading of black, not patches. It is as if someone is taking the colour away from the outside in!? Very odd!?

Do you think I am using the best medication to treat this then?

Dropsy once the scales stick out organ failure, fish rarely make it when scales stick out.
What med are you using?

Its an interpet medicine, called anti internal bacteria, I just find it odd that its changed colour since that went in, even more oddly my toher fish seemed to love it when the meds went in there?!

Problem with uk meds are that they are not very strong, so you have to be on top of things.
See how he goes for aday.
Good luck.

Thanks alot for your help, would love to put a pic on but its such a carry on!
