Gourami Breeding

So I was reading around and about, and lately ive been interested in breeding my fish. not for any particular reason other than having them. I have a male gourami and 4 females in 1 of my tanks. I was thinking about (for a breeding tank) getting a 5 gallon filled with black gravel or some dark substrate, with some java fern (since they need some kind of plants when breeding), I was told that it helps to get the water lower the water level to 50% (not all immediately) and then they'll breed when there ready. any ideas, thoughts, or maybe suggestions?

Knowing the species will help us suggest options.

Whiole waiting on that,I can offer a couple suggestions.  Floating plants are essential with gourami, for maintenance and when breeding.  Most build a bubblenest among the floating plants.  Water Sprite (Ceratopteris cornuta) works very well, or the stem plant Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis) growing up and across the surface or just left floating.

Byron.

Dwarf gourami's sorry for the long wait reply, and I do have some plant leaves that are big enough they touch the top of the tank. is that good?

I would still get some true floaters, either those mentioned previously, or almost any floating plant (Water Lettuce, Frogbit, stem plants left floating) just to provide shade and support for the bubblenest.  There is detailed spawning data here (under "Reproduction" down the page):

Thanks Byron! Your replies really helped, also do you think anubias will do?

If it is floating, but Anubias tends to be attached to wood or rock and not left floating.  I would look for the plants I mentioned earlier.  The thicker the surface vegetation the better.
