Fish Addict
Hi All,
Am redoing my tank after rehoming my severums which devoured every last piece of plant life that I had.
I recently picked up this amazing piece of wood - 'ghost wood', which is changing colours every day as it becomes more waterlogged. I am very happy with it, I love that it touches the bottom in so few places (for good circulation) and how it branches through different levels of the tank. The two holey rocks are currently weighing it down. I am torn whether to keep those or not - they aren't as 'natural looking' but the fish love hiding in them. The two darker pieces in the middle and back right corner I will be taking out.
I am looking for some advice on plants to choose around this piece of wood and I am keen to hear some suggestions.
Things to keep in mind:
Have had reasonable success with java fern and anubias before. The little bits you can see are java fern which recovered a bit after the severums moved on. Would like to try some tough stem plants, maybe some crypts? Any red plants which would do well? I am really keen to hear from those of you who have a great 'eye' for aquascaping how I can make the most of this amazing piece of wood with plants.

Things to keep in mind:
- I have a few milder-mannered cichlids - acaras, rainbows. Also some clown loaches. The plants need to withstand the 'rough behaviour' of a few bigger, stronger fish., i.e. nothing too flimsy that will be easily uprooted, leaves knocked off to blow around the tank and block the filter. And not too tasty to tempt them into eating them!
- I have sand substrate.
- I don't have CO2 but have recently bought new light tubes and will get some Flourish Excel to dose.
