Pure ammonia can be practically impossible to get hold of in UK. Fresh urine is very low in ammonia but in warm conditions the urea in it degrades and produces ammonia in quite large quantities (I have kids and I've had to change diapers and I can assure you the ammonia is there in chokingly large quantities). Of course, the urine method of cycling tanks pre-dates the newer method of fishless cycling.juliethegr8t said:I've done a bit of research on the subject of using urine in tanks as an ammonia source. The actual information surprises some people - urine contains a very small, only trace amounts sometimes, of ammonia, so it's really not a proper source. If you want to do a fishless cycle, go to your hardware store and buy a jug of pure ammonia - it's not expensive, and it'll work a heck of a lot better than urine.
