hi all quick question that can be answered with a yes or no :) i know how most of you like easy questions ;)

got some tetra plant complete substrate for my tank do i need to wash it through just like you do with sand and gravel or do i just put it strait into the tank?

what does it say on the pack?

I would presume if you wash it you will lose most of the nutrients it contains.

I am the world's biggest pedant, so I am duty bound to point out that you cannot answer your question, as worded, with either yes or no.

However, putting my particular foible aside for one moment, I have used the Tetra plant substrate in both my tanks, and did not wash it either time. I'm not sure if you'd class that as a "yes" or a "no". :good:

well either way it answered my question not to rinse it through :p and it makes sense that washing it through would wash away most of the good stuff in the soil so i wont be washing it through :p

You would class that as a no. As in "No, you don't need to wash it"

Definitely do NOT wash it. You will also need to cap that with fine gravel or sand..... Or even cat litter or akadama (search the relevant threads) if you prefer.

Argos playsand is the one thing I am not sure about on top of aquatic soil. Can anyone else confirm if this is ok or not ? I only want to check cos this stuff is VERY fine....
