Well took a little detour on the drive home and stopped off in swallow aquatics in norfolk. WOW! its amazing :) and they had loads of saulosi :) so after a quick chat with a very nice young lady i bought 4 of them for £28 (good price?). Id of had more but i thought ill go easy as ive spent quite a bit on the tanks this month buying rocks, replacement light bar etc. I think i have one male and three female. I think the male may be on the verge of his change to blue, as his yellow on his belly is getting lighter and his dorsal fin has a dark edge to it. Also he has a "egg spot" the girl in the shop told me so hes more than likely male. Tried to get some more plain looking ones in the hope theyll be females, but swallow aquatics said theyd happily take the fish back if i end up with more males. Cant wait to get my light bar now to see them in their full glory, and also get a few more next month to finish the stocking off :)

will try get some pics up soon, but only have the iphone for pics :( lol

£7 each is about right. They cost around £3.20 ish from most suppliers.

I still have 11 or so little ones to get rid of... but I am up in Leeds.

My male has been colouring up for the past 5 months! Slowly but surely he is getting more and more blue on him and when he is displaying, it's almost a full covering.. but he is still mostly yellow. Great little cichlid though and not very aggressive. The males are quite hard on the females though and he wants 'it'.. ALL the time!

You'll love them! :good:

haha yeah ive been sat watching them and theyre so so funny. like "ninjas" my wife thinks as they will pop up over a rock or out of a hole/cave....look at me and then disappear.....only to re-appear some where else and do the same again haha. Its like they thinking "yep hes still there!" lol

What do you feed your little guys on? being mostly a herbivore i know i should only feed them some thing meaty every now and then as a treat....but what else? I have some small cichlid mini pellets, but what else? got a few pics so when i plug the ipod in I'll get them on photobucket and upload them. :)

and am i prenouncing it right..... sa-loo-ce?

I feed all my fish New Life Spectrum, Cichlid mix 1mm pellets. It covers all diets and I have never had such healthy, brightly coloured fish! No worries with bloat and it doesn't foul my water either.. well worth the extra money imo and it lasts a while anyway. Ebay would be your best bet for it. Don't go searching on google though, unless you want to read through hours of people arguing about it, or what their favourite food is. I just feel, from my own results, it is the one for me.

No need to give them any meat, especially not bloodworm, but if you want to give them live foods, try a bit of brine shrimp or something. I did used to drop some krill blocks in every now and then, but only to use it up.

Other foods.. well, use some Spirulina flakes, or have a look at making your own. Just avoid foods with a lot of fillers in them. Cichlid Excel caused mine to bloat, but then others have had no issues with it. Just as long as it's a 'veggy' based food, you should be fine.. some cucumber every now and then goes down a storm too ;)

I'm sure you'll get hours of enjoyment out of watching them. I recently changed from an Mbuna setup to give some bigger Americans a go, but I miss it like crazy. I have kept my Saulosi and Afra Cobue along with my Petricola in another tank though :hey:

I pronounce it Sa-Lo-zi, but then I am a yorkshire man and make up, or skip words anyway...

haha.....is blood worm super bad? can they not take any at all?

Will get on ebay for that stuff later i think and get some ordered :) thanks for the help

pics as promised. Theyve settled in well. Not hiding as much any more and love their food :) have even started swimming up when i open the top :)

All Im going to say is I dont think I have done bad for iphone pics lol. what you guys think? Theyre more orange than yellow, could that be down to moving from the shop to my house? as they were all very yellow in the shop.

Most likely your lighting. Do you have an Aqua-Glo lamp by any chance? It looks like you do, or one similar, going by your pictures.

Most Saulosi in the shops are orange rather than yellow anyway. The so called 'Coral Red' Saulosi.

I love it Ben, the tank looks fantastic would love to see this tank develop.

His lights are 2 x 18w Arcadia Tropical Originals, glad the lights got there safe in one piece. :good:

Yeah, they are similar to the Aqua Glo in that they highlight the reds really well, or make yellow/orange fish seem brighter orange.

Thanks for the kind comments. I now have 6 Saulosi, 1 male and 5 female (i think). Also have a clown plec :)

Got to say....I very highly recommend swallow aquatics....beautiful shop/setup and amazing quality fish from what my amature eye can tell :)

BEAUTIFUL! I love how bright they are.
