Ok so today I wen't out and bought some new fish today. I bought 11 Neon Tetras and one ClownLoach. I asked the guy that sold them to me I asked will the loach get alog with my redtailedshark he said they would be fine. Tell me if I made a bad choce in buying these fish.

Thanks for the help.

The CL should be fine with your shark although they are shoaling fish and should really be kept in groups of at least 3. Your neons may get chased a bit but should be OK.

if hes hiding dont try and find him. Hell come out on his own when hes ready. If you spend time trying to find him he will just get more scared/stressed and probably get sick.

Just to mention... it might be a good idea to do proper research on the fish before you buy them. Relying on advice of a salesmen is usually a bad idea (actually it's always a bad idea but for the dignity of the sales people that use this forum I said usually :p).

What works great for me... do initial research to determine what kind of fish I want (i.e. Large Cichlids, Dwarf Cichlids, Semi-Aggressive Community Fish, Non-Aggressive Community Fish, etc) Once you make that decision shop around and see what's available locally. Then go back and research the fish that are available and see if you want to raise them.

I had a girl tell me that I cannot keep Severums with Black Ghost Knives because one had a blue label and one had a red label. She specifically said the Severums will terrorize the BGK and kill it. Well... I've only had them for a day and a half... but the BGK seems to be the king of the tank at the moment... Good thing I did the research and didn’t take her advice. BGKs are awesome fish and I would have missed a wonderful experience watching them grow.

Not only should clown loaches be kept in groups of at least 3, the also grow to be quite large. I hope you plan on either re-housing them or buying a bigger tank in the future.

If you are certain of upgrading to a large tank, I'd go ahead and buy atleast 2 more CLs. If not, you're going to have one lonely CL. :*)
