The riccia I ordered yesterday arrived today. I have two pieces of it (8 x 8cm) which is at the moment sitting at the bottom of my tank since I have no idea what to do with it. It came attached to a wire mesh (something heavy since it is sinking) and some pieces have fragmented off and are kinda floating through the tank (little bits).

So now what? I have slate and I know I have to some how attach it to the slate or something (driftwood too).....But I don't know how....I also have fishing line :p

Any help would be appreciated

well u can try to wrap it around the driftwood, but its better to get like a mesh and twist it in and out of that and put it around the wood, thats what i did and it worked until my electric yellows ate it lol

If you can un-wind it i would be inclined to do that, then place it under a hair net and wrap it around the bog wood. :) A shot or discription of how its "wrapped" would be great! :D

Hi Angry Platy. two options, follow this Link

or at the point of wrapping the thread around it substitute the thread for a hairnet (my preferred method). the slate replaces the mesh if you want something like in my sig.

hope that helps.

ps: leave the floating bits, they'll keep growing faster on the surface and you'll have enough to make more things with it after about 2 weeks.

i tried to make a little far on the surface using a circle of airtube floating with ricca in it.......but the heat between water surface and lid is SOOOO hot the stuff didnt do very well.

i now chuck any breakaway and use my submerged stuff for harvesting exrtra...i just ripped chunks of it every 2 weeks!

What did you decide to do with it?

I just got some the other day. I made one "slate carpet", but it doesn't look too great. I need to fill in a few spots. Right now it looks like a botched hair transplant. -_-

Cometcattle: leave it alone, if your lighting and tank set up are correct the riccia will fill in the gaps by itself. it looks better that way anyway. i'd rather have a rolling hills effect than a perfect flat carpet, it looks more natural that way.

Ha ha. It is still sitting on the bottom of my tank attached to the wire mesh. It must be OK though as it has been pearling quite a bit

now come on angry platy, get those arms wet, you know what to do now (via PM for everyone wondering what i'm talking about)

Looking forward to it! If yours works well, i thought tonight i may look for a small peace of bogwood to try a peace of mine on!

I look forward to the comprehensive, infoprmative post on how to cover slate/wood with Riccia! :D
