My current fish (before the new ones) have been doing very well after losing a few early on. My tank finally seems to be cycled and stable so I decided to get 2 more albino cats to keep whiskers happy. We also decided to limit our fish additions to 2 per week to hopefully prevent an ammonia spike, even though the lfs that we are buying from is an hour's drive away.

Anyway, the fish look good but they've been kind of quiet (understandable) and it stresses me out worrying if they're going to make it or not. They are both babies (quite a bit smaller than the original catfish) and they look so vulnerable.

Also a question-the catfish are pretty much ignoring each other. Is this probably because they are new to the tank?

Mine always ignore each other when I move them to a new tank. After a while they get together again, but they'll split up sometimes just for the fun of it I guess. I've noticed with my three that one ends up alone more than the other two, I don't know if they pair up or what, but I understand being worried. I sort of freaked out when mine wouldn't get near each other at first too lol.

I suspect its simply a case of new fish in new surroundings. Whenever I've brought home a new addition(s) they've always been standoffish for a couple days. (save exception for the rosy barbs. they've been nosy from the start) Nothing to worry about I'd say, provided their water is tolerable. They'll settle in due time.

My Panda cories did that.

I have a baby Panda and an adult Panda. For a little while they ignored each other, now they're almost inseperable. It's kinda heart-warming in it's own slimy, scale-less kinda way :p

I've had the same experience as Rubicon. After they settle in and adjust, their "personalities" return to normal. When I first got my Panda Cory, it was just a tiny little thing. The other cories in the tank were much older and larger and the poor Panda just hid in the plants for months (except for feeding times). Once she got larger she started hanging out with my 2 albinos and my 2 palateus and she was adopted by them.

Think of them as the new kids in the school play ground.

At first people will look and stare at them, and the best thing for them to do in that situation is keep to themselves and not do anything weird.

After a couple of days though, the fish (or school kids) will get to know each other and all will be fine. There is no reason for your fish to suddenly die unless:

-) Your fish shop has rubbish fish
-) Your tank is highly uncycled
-) You are completely overfeeding them

So dont worry, as long as you care about your fish even a little bit, they usually do fine :)
