So today I was driving back from visiting my girl friends and I decided since I just got my income tax back that I would stop and look at some fish.

Get this, I was going to the LFS to purchase a Red-Tailed Black Shark. As I am coming up to the door, I notice a women carrying some baged fish towards the store, I went to hold the door for her and noticed she had a Red-Tailed Black Shark...in a bag...

So I asked her what she was doing with them, and she said they had out grown her sons tank and she was giving them back to the LFS. SOO I offerd to purchase the red tailed shark off of her, and she handed me the fish in the bag and refused to take any money from me.

I live in a very small town with one LFS that sells fish, what are the chances I go to purcahse one there, and as I am going in the door I get a free one....crazy luck I tell you.

He is 4.5 inches and has been in my barb 35 gal tank for about an hour now.

His new friends are:

4 Tiger Barbs
6 Golden Barbs
6 Cherry barbs

he chases them around and seems to be very hyper, but he has only been out of the bag for about an hour now. He is checking everyone out and getting along great... awsome deal.

The bad news now is my tank is fully stocked now and i still want 2 more tiger barbs... although I am going over kill on the filters so I may beable to pull that off, but that'll be another post all together lol..

Thanks for reading.

Nicely done! They are great fish and should be ok with those tankmates. :)

I posted a about a week ago or so in the other forum about getting one of these guys. And I had decided against and was looking into getting a few loaches, but when i saw this guy, I had to get him. He completes my tank, I'll post pictures soon of him and my tank in general.

RTBS are quite aggressive and you get conflicting info with them because people have different experiences. IMO most things are possible with them provided you don't put 2 in the same tank.

Look forward to the pics!

The nice thing is over the last week I have been donig some research on them as I had planned to get one anyhow. All my fish are fully grown expect one tiger barb, and hes still a good size to him.

My only concern was the cherry barbs, and so far (knock on wood) he hasnt botherd them.

I put a slice of cucummber in the tank and the rest of the fish are busy with that while the RTBS is making himself at home.

Very nice, I obviously need to stand in front of my LFS more often ;)

 LOL LoachLover! I just had a vision of you standing outside your LFS for hours, ambushing anyone who walks in with a bag... ...you'd sure get some funny looks!
Congrats CCG, RTBS are great fish! :D

Its really good to see some positive responses about RTBS. They are great fish and yes there are some compatibility issues when you have 1 but they regularly seem to get a bad rap. :/

Mine was my 1st fish, he's about 3 and 1/2 years old now and he's a stunner. :D

I am very pleased with mine so far. I know they like hiding places so I moved my one clay pit right infront of same plants, and faced it towards the back and he's been hiding in there. Comes out often and circles the tank and goes back. He has clamed down now that he has his own place, and I have turned the hood lifhts off and just left the lights on in the room so he can adjust to his new home.

The tiger barbs took a swipe at him a little while ago and he came right back at them and chased the biggest into a corner... they havnt bothed him since, tehy seem scared of him!

So far so good, I will keep you updated on how I make out with him, and post picuters shortly. Hopefully tonight I can get him to eat.
