Got My First Female Guppy Today........

I got my first female guppy today, she's really pretty her front half is yellow and her back half blue. Obviously I got her because I want to have a go at breeding.

How long do I leave her with the boys for? How long will it take for her to become pregnant, hours, days? I don't want to leave her in there too long as I don't want them to chase her to death.

Also, how long is the gestation?

she could already be pregnant, if she came from a fish shop. i wouldnt but her in with all the males. if she lives on her own then why not move 1 male in with her.

90% of shop fish are already pregnant, so keep her on her own for a month if possible, if she dose not give birth in the period then she is clear and breeding her with your males will resualt if fry from your males

I've been running a test i put 2 virgin females with a male and left them for 15 mins then removed the male, but that was 5 weeks ago and no fry, so I'll give them 2-3 days to make sure.

However if they look happy and not harressing her to much then you could just leave here there, and remove her to a rearing tank once she is close to giving birth.

I've actually moved her out to the fry tank already, one of the males wouldn't leave her alone, the other four were showing no interest in her. I don't want her to die so I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. The molly fry went nuts when they saw her, it was really weird, all 33 of thme gathered around her for about 5mins or so.

HAHA awwwww thats cute. Im sure you know about keeping the ratio of 2 females to 1 male. Guppies are pregnant for 22-26 days and they also store sperm so they can become pregnant almost instantly after. Good luck with the breeding.

Yeah I know all that stuff, that's why I moved her out. It's pretty exciting stuff Damn, but I love fish

i just got my 1st guppys for breeding today, but ig ot 4 females and one male, and i am getting 2 more males in a week or so, good luck with breeding, we can have a breeding race mine will be more cute of corse though lol

I believe she has a gravid spot, although I looked at her really closely at the LFS and she didn't appear to have one, must be my eyesight!

o dear, look at this pic

all guppys have gravid spots, they just get darker when they are pregnant, i only found this out yesterday, i thoguht all my guppys were pregnant but look at the fish on the right.
