Hi all,

I bought a used 1m x 40cm x 40cm tank from ebay a couple of weeks ago. It came with gravel, heater and eheim ecco pump for £27.

I'm now ready to set it up and start cycling. Only problem is that the guy I bought it from didn't have a base for it - he had it sitting on some sort of coffee table.

Where could I get a reasonable base for it? Not looking for anything extravagant - just a base that is strong enough and has a cupboard underneath for storage of stuff.

Have thought about adapting something from Ikea or whatever, but not sure about strength.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Irf.

Make it yourself, there are quite a few threads on it in the DIY section.

Thanks jayjay.

Ordinarily I would, but my DIY skills are not fantastic when it comes to precision woodworking. Also, this sort of thing would take me days, and I'd be better off saving my time and spending a bit of cash.

Thanks anyway for the advice.... useful part of the forums just discovered!

Do you have a hacksaw, T square, Drill and screwdriver ?

Then you can make a wood stand, its easy from the plans around on the internet.

Wood that would be suitable for a stand costs about 2.50 for i think 3 metres, so about 3 or 4 will be needed to make it,

Try junk shops, Goodwill or Salvation Army. You can find interesting stuff there and there might be something that would do.

u dont even need all them mate.

if you go to a wood yard like arnold yaver (not sure i spelt that right) they will cut the wood to the size you want.

you dont even have to hammer if you dont want. jus get some no nails and alls you need to do is stick it together.

if your really not wanting to do DIY then get the argos catalogue out or go to ikea at the weekend. youll easy find something.

Great! Thanks for all the replies guys.....

If it's as easy as that, I'll try to set some time aside in a couple of weekends.

What kind of stand was it? I guess it wasn't sold as an "aquarium stand"?

Thanks,

Irf.
