Ok, so I got a female Crowntail Betta that has a white body with red fins and little red spots on her forehead today from Petco. I have a 1.5 gallon tank that has a heater and filter and I was wondering If you guys knew about any small lights I could use to grow plants in it. I might upgrade the tank to a 2.5 gallon(max size for me, have a 20 gallon in my room already and I share my room with my brother who has AP European history homework every night and needs the space on our desk). I might end up keeping her in the 20 gallon though.

Also, do ghost shrimp work with bettas?

Shrimp are generally fine with bettas. But every fish is different and moods towards tankmates can change. So its really up to you to watch and decide. My bettas were all fine with shrimp and frogs. Mind you i had male bettas but it's still up to you to decide.

Thats My honest opinion.

Good luck with the new betta!

Hmmm, I know a few people are using marina lights for their tank, but I'm not surehow great they are for plant growing? Also, if you can upgradeto the 2.5 that would be alot better, ideallya better wants at least 3ukG, they really don't take up all that much space.

About putting her in your 20g, it really depends on her temperment and that ofthe others in the 20g, I know a lot of people do keep girls in community, But not boys!

I have a just under 3G tank and it is pretty small but still holds nearly 3G and its that little bit more spacet hat makes all the difference in the world! If i'm on honest little spotlight marina lights are rubbish, i have one and its not very good i mean there alright but in my honest opinion, they dont help my plants grow and dont shed much light. I'm also trying to find a strong small light for my 3G!

3g is the very min but 5g is alot better in a 1.5g amonnia will build up quickly evan if you do 75% waterchanges a day. some bettes will live fine with shrimps others doont like them the only way to find out is try it but if you do just make sure you can take them back or have somewhere else to put them.

The 2.5 gallon would be better. Keep in mind that with small tanks, you have to be especially dedicated to daily water changes. It can be a lot of work! Also, keep the gravel to a minimum because it uses up space that otherwise could be used for water and a filter/heater. I use the mini-hydor in my small tank and it's sleek and hardly takes up any space.

Congrats on your new girly. . .I love the white ones with red fins. I'd love to get one sometime in the future and name her peppermint. ;)
