My wife knew that I wanted a Betta (eventually) and bought me a Male Betta Splenden from the LFS.

Right now there are 2 zebra danios, 2 black widow tetras and one cory in the tank( 10 gallon) , besides the betta.

I woke up this morning and the cory looked like it sustained a gash by one of its whiskers.

Did the Betta do this? What should I do?

I took the cory out and put him in a bowl with tank water, don't have another tank.

Help!

Get another tank for you're betta. Tetras[not totally sure about black widows] are notiorious fin-nippers and the danios might frighten the betta because they are fast moving fish, whereas the betta likes to roam their tank slowly.

Other things I have to add, although it is the betta section;

Tetras, danios and cory's need to be in shoals. You should have a minimum of 6 of each species in the tank, which you aren't capable of doing in a 10 gallon. The stocking really needs re-thought in general. There's no way enough room for all three kinds of fish, and you really do need at least 6 to keep them happy.

lt could have been the betta but my best bet is the black widow, These are characins and are related to the priahna and if you look closely they have actually got little sharp razor teeth and they can do some damage. So i would have thought it would have been your black widows but it could have been betta, My advice would be to either get the betta a small tank with a small filter to house him and maybe put the cory in the same tank or get rid of the black widows :good: With my experience my black widows distryoed my betta's tail and i had to rehome him in a seperate tank :/ good luck hope this helped

I would have to say the black widows would be the culprits in my mind. Yes betta will nip and tend to be aggressive, but in my experience they will ignore corydoras. BW's on the other hand.. well all I know is my black widows always try and have a go at the my corydoras, but only thing that stops them is the fact that theres 6 corys to 2 BW's. Safety in numbers lol.

new tank needed, bettas with the blacks will end up with 1 dead betta, widows are evil fish, most lfs sell them due to them being hadry first fish but some likemine dont even bother as they live for ever and are pure evil, they cant help it i know as its just the way mother nature intended but then again mother nature has a vicious streak to her at times

my betta lives fine with danios, i plan to return my neons though as they fin nip him :(
