i got a 6cm senegal 2 days ago and i am starting to love it...although i have read that it is not a very social fish mine is swimming arround all the time..

i just want to know what do u feed your senegals the only thing that mine likes is frozen bloodworms

try tearing up a piece of prawn or whitebait into easy to eat strips
and starve him for a few days first

Okay, so 6cm is about 3" if I did the math right, so I suggest feeding it bloodworms until he's big enough to take krill (when he's about 4" or 10cm, if I converted right), then give him 1 small krill. That's what I feed my Senegal.
Congrats on getting the Senegal, they're my all-time favorite fish. Got any pictures?
Cheers,
GobyMaster

agree with cane.give the little fella the same food as your going to feed him when hes an adult.prawns, lancefish, whitebait will all be eaten with gusto.just make sure the pieces are small enough for him.i hate using bloodworm,it makes such a flippin mess.much easier to give the senegal a couple pieces of prawn.you can monitor how much he eats a lot easier and if one pice is left, its a lot easier to pick up and throw away.

thanks mark.

agreed
krill & bloodworm is a messy buisness and the sooner its on proper food the better
train them when their young i say
he will also grow much faster on meaty foods :good:

for pellets try both JMC catfish pellets and Hikari sinking carnivorous pellets
all my bichirs love these and both are of a size that even the smallest bichir
seen in shops can handle.

My baby Senegal will happily wolf (excuse the pun) Hikari Carnivore Pellets without a second thought, he seems to like Brine shrimp blocks and prawns aslo :)

agree with wolf also :good: .i use jmc pellets and used to use hikari sinking carnivore(cant find them locally).

i mainly feed mine frozen prawns from tesco with maybe twice a week feedings of frozen lancefish/snacks of jmc pellets

thanks mark.

hikari sinking carnivore pellets are favourites i'd say. i do try to feed my bloodworms but most of the time they are ignored or eaten by my fire eels before the bichir even comes close.

In the wild they are found in central and western Africa including Senegal. now days most store bought senegals are farm bred in Asia-Anne
