My GSP actually came to the glass and looked right at me and just set there as if saying thank you for new tank. He has never greeted me before. He usually goes and hides behind a rock or something and waits till i leave. It was really cool seeing him act this way. I will get pics once water clears up some more. Still a little hazy.

well water has cleared up some and puffer is now in. here is pic. GSP is on bottom left corner waving hello to everyone.

BTW: This is not a permanent tank for all of you ready to say a GSP is not suitable for a 20g tank. I know this, he is acclimating to marine conditions for a 58g saltwater tank in which he will be main fish. So this will do him fine until acclimation completes 3-4 months. He is also only fish in 20g with the exception of a few ghost shrimp i keep around for cleaning bottom and just in case puffer gets hungry. Getting some olive nerite snails later this week to help with algae and also feeding. See alot of these feeders are a win win hehe. If he doesnt eat the snails, they eat algae. If he doesnt eat the shrimp they clean bottom. WIN-WIN :hey:

I started to make my GSP come to the top of the tank to be fed to encourage her to be more socialiable. This was no fun task with my 37Tall because it's 25" deep and I had to get my whole arm in there to lure her to the top. She's still nervous, but hey, she's a wild caught animal.

Glad the GSP is working out for you. I really love mine. Are you afraid that your puffer will over eat when cleaning up the clean up crew?

In my keeping the cleaning crew, i have found the GSP will stop eating for 2-3 days at a time. He will sometimes eat 2-3 shrimp in a day then go a few days with nothing. So no, i dont feel he will overeat. I think this is a common myth with GSP's due to them eating alot when fed regurally on schedules. I feed mine bloodworms as treats only. Rest is left to life food like shrimp and snails. My first GSP i did feed regurally bloodworms. I found he did eat ALOT. Even when put with ghost shrimp he would take them all out in a matter of hours. But, with this one, I kept him with 5 ghost shrimp a week and he has been fine. I feed him bloodworms maybe once or twice a week. He sometimes never even touches them and i just let the shrimp eat it. Sometimes he goes nuts on it. So i just let him decide and let the cleanup crew do the rest. This is all just in my experience. I do not know the scientific backround to prove one way or another. I feel every GSP has a personality. One can act one way, and another a completly different way. Saying this, I think it is hard to classify what they do best with and what they do not as far as eating. But, experiment a little and see what they prefer and go from there. Hope this helps. NMONKS can prob help you further as i ask him for advise if needed as he has experience with puffers as well.

well updated with a pic at top of post. Not bad for a $40 setup aye? Getting a Pengiun Bio-wheel 60 Pro soon to run with other filters until it has matured. Running two filters right now, a 10g internal mechanical and a 15g whisper bio filter (had both lying around new not being used). Substrate is small crushed coral, 3 lace rocks, on piece of slate partial barried with underneath cleared at top end for ghost shrimp to hide.

When the puffer matures will you decorate the tank similar to an estuary or more of a marine feel? I personally like full marine tanks decorated as "brackish" with bogwood, mangroves, etc etc. I currently have my scats in a estuary decorated tank, but I have filled the sump with lots of LR.

not sure just yet. I defenitaly want the LR. I am getting a piece of bogwood for this tank soon. I feel the tea water will give more a brackish feel to it. As for the marine tank, its still 3-4 months before i even think of filling one up.

just keeping everyone updated on puffer, i am amazed at his attitude since moving to larger tank. He was chasing the magnetic algae cleaner around earlier when cleaning front glass (something he would have never done before). His shyness is slowly moving away. So much, i now i have to keep an eye on him when arranging inside so he doesnt nip the crap out of me LOL.

i will continue that marine look for now. I am thinking of mangroves in the future, If i get a 60g tub then i could proabably do the mangroves and just keep the water level down a few inches so that the puffer doesnt hop out. He does like to take a skip on top of the water at times.

picture updates hope ya like, i know its not bracky feeling for some, but it he and i both enjoy the marine feel :D plus he likes the little nooks and crannies to explore
